I picked up a full set of the RS9000XLs for my 2002 Ford F150 FX4. Their website's catalog says the model RS999233 fits the front of my truck, so I bought two of those, and two RS999234s for the rear. To start, only one of the front shocks fit, the metal tube inside the lower mount on the second shock was too wide by nearly 2mm. Irritated, I called their tech support line, which was closed at 5pm on a Friday. Not really a big deal, I left a message with my problem and phone number, and its now the next Wednesday night and I've received no contact back. I ended up just taking a Dremel to the tube to make it fit, not something I expect to do on a $100 shock. One of the rear shocks appeared to have been a refund from another customer, as the stickers were already in place on the shock which I didn't want. The most annoying part was that to cram the shock into the box, instead of compressing it and locking it in place, it was held down with a rubber coated wire and seemed to be tied by someone who has obviously never made a real knot before. This basically made it impossible to put the lower mount in place, and then unlock the top to have it slowly slide into the top mount.
The third issue is probably the most annoying though, the rubber shock boots are just crap. The RS9000XLs were replacing my stock Rancho shocks that were made as OEM equipment. The stock shocks had a plastic boot which allowed the top shock mount to be easily tightened. The rubber boots completely cover the nut by the top mount, so you end up having to tighten the top nut by using a very tiny wrench to hold the uppermost part of the shock, and then a larger wrench to screw down the nut. The problem is that it makes it impossible to use a torque wrench, and hell if I know how many ftlbs I managed to apply. I guess its a good thing they have a lifetime warranty.
The one saving grace about the shock is that it seems to perform very well, which of course is its most important function. So, I'd recommend these to anyone who doesn't plan on installing the shocks themselves.
