I bought this because I needed a Pintle towing capability in addition to towing multiple-sized hitch balls because I purchased a US military surplus trailer (Pintle Hooks are all the US Military uses). The locking piece that flips down to the hitch ball makes towing a Pintle device possible (and presumably safe) so the hitch will not ride up and off of the ball; however, the largest ball (2-5/16") is the one needed for Pintle towing but the locking piece is ONLY able to lock the middle-size hitch ball (2") -- it is not reconfigurable. The middle-sized 2" hitch ball is the one most used in trailer towing and using a Pintle hitch is most damaging to that ball because of the large amount of free play between the trailered Pintle hitch loop and the hitch ball. That means the ball will be damaged, the chrome will be chipped and dented, it will rust and the other trailered items' hitches will be damaged by this condition.
Now that I know all of these details, I must decide whether the $100 purchase price was worth the potential issues and am seriously considering a straight refund and continuing my search for a capable component for my needs that doesn't sacrifice functionality, quality, etc. I can't say that safety is a factor because I have not used it; however, having so much play in the towed vehicle is at the very least a distraction when driving, which is a safety factor.
