HAVE INSTALLED THIS UNIT IN OUR PROJECT BOAT FOR CONTINUED E10 (10% blend) ETHANOL PROBLEMS.. (Government mandating will raise this % to 15% in the very near future!!) have been doing a DIY..do it yourself.. on this product for a major Premier Boating publication which will be in this springs edition.
I choose this unit as the filter material is rated at 10 Microns...it will trap and hold 99.9% of water passing through the filter and replacement filters are fairly priced + the spin on filter also has a built in fast drain at the bottom of each replacement filter. ETHANOL E 10 HOLDS A LOT OF WATER!!!..Notice cast aluminum mounting bracket is included in this as part of the complete assembly. The assortment of threaded holes on cast mounting bracket allows easy instals..just purchase the correct threaded hose barb and instal..BE SURE TO USE ONLY PERMATEX AVIATION SEALER (item #80017 by Permatex) on ALL FITTINGS & HOSES as all others will be eaten by ethanol. If replacing fuel hoses USE ONLY USCG APPROVED FIRE SAFETY FUEL HOSE...A DOUBLE WALL WITH STEEL BRAIDED CORE and also use double hose clamp with stainless steel on all connections,
Do note that this will NOT solve another severe problem with Ethanol mixed fuels.."PHASE SEPARATION"but will at least allow water to be removed from the fuel. Installing a good quality fuel /water separator (as this unit)..or what ever you may choose with similar high quality construction with manual drain features... (most all other brands DO NOT have this important feature) will be the first step to increase trouble free boating due to E10 & soon E15 % ethanol gas fuels.
